Course Advising and Registration

The following are steps for course advising and registration for freshman and sophomore students. Juniors and seniors should contact their faculty advisor for advising. Your assigned advisor can be found in . If you are a double major or have a minor you should meet with all advisors for those areas to make sure you are on track with your majors and minors.

Schedule an advising appointment with your Academic Advisor:

  • You will receive an email from your Advisor 5-6 weeks before registration begins to schedule an appointment. Make sure to check your Bear Mail daily during the semester to watch for this email. If you do not receive an email contact your Advisor  to schedule an appointment.
    • Registration timelines:
      • Fall advising appointments (for spring registration) begin in early October
      • Spring advising appointments (for summer and fall registration) begin in late February.

 Meet with your designated Academic Advisor:

  • Prior to your meeting, look over Degree Works, Degree Plans and the Schedule of Classes in  to plan out your schedule. You can use this Scheduler Builder  to plan out classes.
  • Check for your Registration Date under "Your Day to Register". Registering for your next semester is based on how many credits you have EARNED/COMPLETED. 
  • Check  for any holds you have and discuss them with your Advisor. Common holds include billing, immunization, student athlete, and academic probation. You will need to take care of any holds prior to registering for courses (click for more info on holds). 
  • Discuss course prerequisites with your Advisor.
  • During your appointment, your Advisor will verify all information and provide you a PIN for registration. You WILL NOT be able to register for classes without a PIN.

 Register for courses:

  • It is important that you register on your assigned date to ensure you get into the courses needed to keep you moving toward graduation.

 Changes to your schedule after registration:

  • Email your Advisor prior to making any changes to your schedule to make sure the changes won鈥檛 negatively impact your progression.
