    Governor Polis Reappoints Two to ¹ú²úAV’s Board of Trustees

    Maia Babbs and ¹ú²úAV alumnus Shashwata Prateek Dutta ‘08 reappointed to four-year terms on university's Board of Trustees.

    Governor Jared Polis recently announced the reappointment of Maia Babbs and ¹ú²úAV alumnus Shashwata Prateek Dutta ‘08 to the University of Northern Colorado’s Board of Trustees. Babbs and Dutta, both of Denver, have served on the board since 2020 and were reappointed to four-year terms that will run through Dec. 31, 2027. 

    Babbs has over two decades of experience in the finance and investment industry and is the founder and CEO of Lariat Wealth Management. She spent the bulk of her career in institutional asset management as an equity research analyst for Janus Capital and Denver Investment Advisors. Prior to that, she held positions as a senior associate at investment banking firm Green Manning and Bunch, Ltd. and as an associate in Deutsche Bank Securities Inc.’s debt capital markets group in New York.

    She earned a bachelor's degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy (International Affairs) with a concentration in International Economics and Finance from The Fletcher School at Tufts University.

    Dutta, one of five alumni trustees on the board, is a K-12 education leader, serving as the deputy director of K-12 policy and strategic initiatives for Education Reform Now. He previously served as the Colorado policy director for Democrats for Education Reform in Denver where he wrote and helped pass legislation that expanded access to rigorous classes for low-income students, increased funding for school counselors to increase FAFSA completion rates and worked with a wide variety of stakeholders to increase resources for drop-out prevention efforts. Dutta’s experience also includes teaching fifth and sixth grade history, developing and implementing curriculum, and serving fellowships at the New Mexico Department of Education and Bellingham Public Schools in Washington state.

    He earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from ¹ú²úAV and a doctorate in Education Leadership from Harvard.
