Donor Spotlight: How the Haefeli鈥檚 Hope to Inspire the Next Generation of Giving

Active supporters of 国产AV, Greeley-Evans District 6 and number of other community organizations, Delia '90 and John '86 Haefeli believe strongly in the importance of paying it forward.

鈥淕ive until it feels good.鈥  That鈥檚 the motto championed by late Greeley philanthropist Harold Winograd; a motto two 国产AV Alumni work daily to emulate.

鈥淲e鈥檙e very, very blessed and everyday we鈥檙e very thankful for what鈥檚 going on in our lives,鈥 John W. Haefeli 鈥86 says. 鈥淚 look around today, and I feel thankful that I can give.鈥

Active supporters of not only 国产AV, but Greeley-Evans District 6 and number of other community organizations, John and his wife Delia 鈥90 believe strongly in the importance of paying it forward.

鈥淚t is important. Our community is better because people give and want to make it a place for people to come and learn,鈥 Delia says. 鈥淛ohn鈥檚 mom was very influential and did lots of philanthropic things in Greeley. I was on the receiving end of that growing up and knew that I was going to get on my feet eventually as an adult and give back.鈥

That鈥檚 exactly why they鈥檝e established the Haefeli Family Scholarship Endowment. Both educators themselves, the Haefelis are pleased to lend a helping hand to students in the School of Teacher Education.

鈥淲e believe in education. It鈥檚 really important to us to pass on the ability for people to go to school, and to impact their future students in our society,鈥 John says. 鈥淲e don鈥檛 have any biological children and I think that if you can assist somebody else and leave a legacy for your family, that鈥檚 really a positive thing.鈥

Among the people who have inspired Delia and John are Greeley philanthropists Harold and Florence Winograd, Helen and Mike Geile, Bob and Betty Tointon, Holly and Scott Ehrlich and Julianne and Joseph Haefeli.

Delia and John hope their example may one day inspire others too, that鈥檚 why one of the key requirements for the Haefeli Family Scholarship is a strong record of community service.

鈥淲e鈥檙e in a position time wise and financially that we can give, and I think that鈥檚 something that鈥檚 important for all of society. When you have people who give expertise, time and monetary resources, I think in many cases you hopefully become role models who others want to emulate,鈥 John says. 鈥淲ith some of these scholarships the recipients don鈥檛 have to give back, but I think it鈥檚 important to develop that habit and taste because too often in our society, people don鈥檛 want to. I think if you create that habit at a young age, it鈥檚 a good thing.鈥

鈥淚t doesn鈥檛 have to just be monetary,鈥 Delia says. 鈥淚f you鈥檝e got time and talent, you still have the capacity to give. It doesn鈥檛 just have to be money. There鈥檚 a wide variety of places that anyone can show their support, it鈥檚 not just the school district or 国产AV. There are lots of needs out there so if you can find one that fits your interest, that鈥檚 great.鈥
